(Because this is a game that revolves around the choices the player makes, I should first give the basics of the choices I'll have had Lee make in game - first and foremost, he’ll have had a largely positive relationship with Clementine, choosing to do what he feels best for her but still trusting her to be able to help out; deciding to take her to Crawford, choosing not to take the rations, and such. He’ll have saved Duck, attempted to save Larry, saved Ben and generally done the best he could to ensure the people in their group survive.
Also, he’s cut off his arm in episode 5, which should be interesting.And/or terrible.)
First impressions of Lee might be mixed, depending on the circumstances. If you get on his bad side, it will become obvious that he's angered quickly, and not one to get on the wrong side of. Overall though, he’s a pretty nice guy, pretty friendly and easy going upon meeting someone on good terms. Indeed, Lee has been shown throughout the game to be smart, determined, responsible and selfless, albeit as well as quick to anger and somewhat reckless.
Much of Lee’s life throughout the game revolves around redemption, namely redemption for what he did in the past. Before the walker outbreak, he killed a state senator after finding the man in bed with his wife. He claims it was by accident, and that the two of them got into a scuffle first; indeed, he does appear remorseful whenever he talks of this part of his life. This shows what Lee is capable of when angered, too — the choice between fighting, threatening or killing somebody and leaving them is often left up to the player, but Lee often still acts recklessly when angered regardless of player choice. This is especially true when it comes to keeping Clementine safe; he’s immediately angered upon her being hurt or put in any danger. He'll threaten most people he sees as dangerous when it comes to protecting her.
Another big part of Lee’s personality would be his intelligence and reasonable thinking, however — at least when not overcome by anger. He’s a man who thinks things through logically, yet still remains relatively hopeful, even in the face of a dangerous world where the future is so uncertain and so bleak. He was a professor of history before he was arrested and convicted of murder, and has been shown to be very good at thinking on his feet, using logic to move him and the other group of survivors forward. He’s almost always the one that’s shown getting them out of a tight spot. When their RV was blocked by a freight train, for example, Lee was the one who got the train running and had them on their way. He was the one who figured out the St John’s family was not to be trusted after following his instincts and investigating the dairy farm. Though reckless at times, Lee does show that he's one who can be counted on - he tends to avoid conflict where possible when he's not threatened or aggravated. Where Kenny often wants to go in all guns blazing, Lee will usually want to be reasonable about things; smart, and often non-threatening.
By the end of the first series Lee also shows just how motivated he can truly be; he’s on the verge of losing everything, including his life, but that won’t stop him from fighting as hard as humanly possible to get to a kidnapped Clementine, to get her safe and to make sure she has a chance after he’s gone. If the player chooses to do so, Lee will even have his arm cut off in an attempt to stop himself from turning into a walker — or at least to slow down the process and give him more time to get her to safety. At one point, he walks right through a hoard of walkers with no more than an axe (and a shard of glass, if he chooses not to cut off his arm). His determination to survive, and to ensure the other people in his group – particularly Clementine – survive is paramount throughout the game.
When it comes to relationships, of course there is probably none more important in the first series of the game than the one between Lee and Clementine. It's easy to see from this relationship that Lee is pretty good with kids, but it's Clementine in particular who grounds him, as well as the player. She really gives him something to fight for. They’re strangers when the game begins, but the relationship grows until Lee begins to see her as close to a daughter – someone he feels he must protect and look after, as well as a very close friend. He’s fiercely protective of her and their relationship, stating that anyone who comes between the two of them “is gonna wind up dead”. He'd do pretty much anything to protect her, and prizes her life above his own.
Overall, Lee is a good man in an awful world - he's smart, determined, responsible and compassionate. He has some issues with anger and recklessness, particularly when it comes to protecting those he cares about. But he tries his best, using his smarts, initiative and own motivation to try his best to ensure that he and the others survive.

Hm. So, that's how this thing works. [There’s a small pause, and Lee’s face comes into view, slightly surprised.] …It’s recording.
[Not what he was planning, but okay.]
Hey, uh. I'm a little new around here. And I suppose, since I got this thing working… I have some things I'd like to ask. The walkers— the… dead people, up and killing people. I haven't seen any, which is good. Am I right in assuming that's not a problem around here?
[Considering he was shot in the head a few hours ago and is perfectly fine now, it wouldn't be too far-fetched too imagine that there are no walkers here either.]
Also... could you let me know if you've seen a little girl named Clementine around? I'm not sure if she's here - or... even where here is - but I know that I wouldn't want to be here without her. Even if this place isn’t as dangerous as things were back home. She's... well, I've been looking out for her. If she is here, I want to know she's safe. [There's a pause.
He doesn't stretch it out any more than that though; he has nothing else to say. After a brief, somewhat awkward pause, Lee switches off the video.]
